Illustrator Tutorials

  1. I enjoyed this 10-minute tutorial as it perfectly introduced Adobe Illustrator. I found it helpful that the tutorial took the time to explain the workspace, pointing out each of the options to use and select before starting to create. It listed and explained the menu bar, toolbox, control panel, and others. The shape tools are something I believe will be easy, as you only click or drag to insert the shape. It showed how the anchors, paths, and handles can only be manipulated individually. I found it interesting that there are no limits to what you create in Illustrator. With all the basic options to shapeshift or fill with color, even a beginner can start to create simple designs.

  1. This second video explained the pen tool, startel tool, and curvature. The pen tool seems to be the most basic yet crucial function in Adobe Illustrator. It consists of choosing how many points the star has, and this was interesting because it showed a simple way of making a triangle. You can edit the triangle or shape any way you want with direct selection. Furthermore, the curvature part was confusing as I was unsure what the overlapping selection and shift M meant. It is definitely something I want to learn more about; likewise, the video ends by saying there is much more to Illustrator but that these basic tools will take you a long way.

  1. For the last tutorial, I watched a more specific example of creating something. It showed the step-by-step instructions to create a vector peach using the essential tools. It started by describing how to sketch the peach before opening the illustrator. After you import your sketch, command plus shift plus p on the keyboard takes you to a template option for the layer. You start tracing the peach with the pen tool to create an outline. Adding color seems accessible as you create a new layer where you’ll select the parts of the peach that you want to color. I think I will struggle with remembering each tool and when to use it properly.

I/W/W/B

The Internet is a global network of connected computers that helps communication and information exchange between individuals. Additionally, the World Wide Web (WWW) is a system of linked documents that can be accessed online, and it was created in 1990 by Sir Tim Berners-Lee so that individuals (especially scientists) could share information. The World Wide Web is a system/place for gaining access to information, while the Internet is the overarching network; however, they work together, and WWW is considered a subset of the Internet. Berners-Lee created the first website in 1991, which is no longer accessible. Hedy Lamarr, a celebrity, developed frequency-hopping technology during WWII, forming the basis of Wi-Fi. Additionally, Johnny Depp wrote “This Is A Song For Miss Hedy Lamarr,” which is an ode to the inventor and actress. Bluetooth was developed by Intel, Ericsson, and Nokia in 1996 and named after Harald Gormsson, a Danish king from the 10th century. The logo combines the Nordic letters H and B. Lastly, the IEEE developed Wi-Fi networks in 1997; their original name was Wireless Fidelity. The technology allows wireless networking by using radio waves.

About Me

My name is Jose Estrada, and I am from Guatemala. I am pursuing a career in creative writing and advertising. I’ve always enjoyed writing; I wanted to be an author when I was a little kid. I used to create my own books on Word, not realizing I would go on and pursue a writing career. The difference is that I don’t want to be an ordinary author, as I know times have changed. With the advertising world growing, I decided to incorporate what I love to do, writing, into the creative field. I seek to improve my knowledge through passion and hard work.

Throughout my 21 years, I’ve had a hand full of passion. Apart from writing, I am fond of combat sports—competing in W.A.K.O Kickboxing— motor racing, guitar playing, and watching movies. Even in my passions, I have experienced ups and downs, but I’m still going forward with much to learn. For instance, competing in a combat sport toughened my persona. Of course, you will get punched and perhaps even beat up at times and lose. The thing is, no matter how many times you fall, you have to get back up. With the right mindset and discipline, overcoming adversity is the easy part. Nonetheless, I have indeed failed in my life. When applying to colleges, I was rejected by what was supposedly the college of my dreams; however, we are not taught that dreams change.

I am halfway through my degree at The University of Tampa and have started taking my advertising minor classes. FMX 210 is a class I wanted to take. The fact that it is based on digital media, through skills in Adobe, caught my attention. I look forward to improving my skills and, better yet, understanding what goes behind design and creation. I expect the class to have a lot of work but not overwhelm me because of its clear instructions and timed due dates.
